About Me

Greetings.  My name is Elliott and I live in New York City (a/k/a “Gotham“). I have been a linguist, a concert pianist, an information systems leader, and am now enjoying the fruits of my labors.  I love beauty, whether in the form of fine art, music, film, fashion, automobiles, interior design or human beings. My particular passions are old master drawings and paintings, classical piano and opera. I have created this blog as a free-form place to record items or events which I find interesting, lovely or enjoyable.  I make no predictions as to what might end up here.

I am a current fan(atic) of Downton Abbey. I have willingly suspended reason and placed myself in that splendid Edwardian time and place. As someone said, Downton Abbey’s evocation of the English class system is superficial, a softly filtered view of a selective romanticism. But the fashion and styles are pleasing and the storylines humor one.

I am also fascinated by faceted gemstones. I subscribe to several blogs which trace the history of royal collections and Schatzkammer.  I also have a small business in gemstones on eBay. Please browse around at your leisure.

    • Oh thank you! That means so much to me. I love that theme. It allows me to display so much more information, and in a much more readable format.

I’m still looking forward to your deciphering the Wahle mystery!! 🙂

  4. This is a wonderfully organized, extremely informative blog. You do this very well, and I love your front page. I will be back to browse more thoroughly. I’m glad you stopped at my site so I could discover you here! (And that’s one of the best explanations of Downton Abbey I’ve seen. )

  6. You are a very interesting person and have a stunning blog. I’m just a beginner to blogging of the interactive sort. Thanks for liking several of my recent posts on ethicaldative. I look forward to perusing your blog, as many of your interests are mine. Goodness, I just noticed the Kenneth Clark link. I watched his series in grad school. Best wishes.

  7. Elliott, hope you don’t mind my asking the question here … do you know anything about the theft of vierges romanes in France? This is one of my photographic specialties, but we have found many of them have been stolen.

  8. Hi Elliot, thanks for liking my blog. What an amazing site you have put together. I often get into debates with people about art and its practitioners. With things like digital cameras, anyone can take a good photo, but if you look at the shots by great photographers, you can tell where all the training and talent goes. Art and culture are like any other commodity. You get what you pay for, and if you really value beauty, you have to be prepared to work for it. cheers.

  9. Elliott, PJ and I just wanted to wish you a happy new year for 2012. One of the great benefits of our blogging adventure has been to meet people who inspire us in our work and lives. I look forward to the day when we can meet.

  10. Elliott, can I ask you a favor? I’m preparing a post on the removal of the cloisters from France by George Grey Barnard that formed the basis of the Cloisters Museum. Do you know any sources that discuss his original actions? This is sort of a follow-on to the sale of the Cordeliers cloister in Saint Emilion last year.

  11. Dear Elliott, it makes me happy to read through your blog. Simply awesome. In 2012 I started to write something about my hobby which is collecting autographs, signed photographs or signed books from artists. Maybe you find some time to browse through my blog and you can discover something interesting from Monet to Picasso.

    All the best

  12. Elliott, are you still posting? I’m not receiving notifications and I see that there aren’t any recent articles.

    • Dennis, thank you reaching out to me on this! To my chagrin, I have abandoned my blog for some time now. I got sucked into the President’s re-election campaign and it turned out to be all-consuming. Although he has now been re-elected, I just haven’t gotten back in the groove of posting to my blog. I do think of it (and fret) every day! Knowing someone even misses it will go a long way to encouraging me! THANK YOU!!

      • Yours is one of the blogs I must enjoy, Elliott, so I missed it. Glad you’re thinking about getting back in the saddle after your worthy cause.

  13. Dennis, I’m doubly pleased that you find the cause to have been worthy! 🙂
