Downton Abbey

For anyone who has been absent from the planet for the last two years, Downton Abbey is a television series, coproduced by Carnival Films in the UK and WGBH Boston in the US. The series is set on the fictional estate of Downton Abbey in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The series is set in the fictional Downton Abbey, the Yorkshire country house of the Earl and Countess of Grantham, and follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants during the reign of King George V. The first series spans the two years before the Great War beginning with news of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, which sets the story in motion. The second series covers the years 1916 to 1919, and the 2011 Christmas Special which aired in December 2011 covers the 1919 Christmas period, ending in early 1920.  A third series is in production and is set to air in the UK beginning in September 2012, and in the US, in January 2013.

Here follows a series of photographs of some of the principal actors from the series, in costume. Click on each image to go to a full-sized blow-up.  I have posted these primarily because they provide costume detail not normally available through TV sets or small-screen videos.  The images have been taken from the fabulous website http://downtonline.com, which is a veritable encyclopedia of all things Downton Abbey-related. All credit is given to the owners of that website, Nicole, Sam and Melanie.  They state that the images were all taken from the Internet and from contributors, and that the images all belong to the original owners. If you feel any of the material rightfully belongs to you & want it removed, contact us & it will be taken off without question.
